-Craftwork and Shipping Problems.
First off, I was hoping to pack over the weekend and ship all orders today, but
I ordered too small of envelopes and packing cardboard. So orders will be shipped Wednesday instead.
I potted this basil plant with mini balsa home for Clare Bare's birthday.
While working on it I found an itunes station called YESTERDAY USA RADIO which streams radioplays of "Have Gun, Will Travel", "Gunsmoke", "The Lone Ranger", "Twilight Zone" etc...Great for a couple episodes if you are into audio stories...
These will be arriving into homes within a week. Sorry international orders, you get a bit longer.

-Last Days of Solid Void
So I'm finally moved into my awesome new apartment/studio up in Greenpoint and am super relieved now, sorry for ignoring people/updates...
My show at Jonathan Levine Gallery is wrapping up this Saturday, October 9th, if you haven't made it.
"Chelsea" 20"x 30" oil on wood.
I'm gonna try and go to Central Park on Saturday for a bit to check out John Lennon's 70th Birthday. The only reason I've been growing out my hair is so I could attend occasions like this unabashed.

-House of Mystery 31
Fun setting up a still life for this cover, the skull cast I bought 10 years ago is making its debut. The gun was a paper cutout that was propped up, faked shadows. Writing quill was a cat toy from Petland Discounts. Inkwell from the thrift store called Junk. Vase from The Thing in Greenpoint, and fake flowers were from some dollar store. Text on the book brought to you by Photoshop.
12" x 18" oil on panel, digital dodging/burning/text.

August Post 8 of 22.
I'm always on the look out for things that look like other things. So when I was gazing down at my coaster at the Pencil Factory a few weeks ago I finally saw it.
And filled in the blanks a bit so you can too.

-House of Mystery 30
Here's the cover I did for Vertigo's "House of Mystery" issue 30.
12"x18" oil on panel with digital help.
A flame was added using the magic of Photoshop to subdue some of the ribbons. I personally like its ribbon-ness, but since another DC title was coming out this month with an unraveling mummy. Thats too many cloth-strip references for a month.
Original and sketches here.
A lot of sketches were done for this issue, the old timey ones along the bottom were sketched up based off one of the first summaries of the story arc. So many months went by that the story had changed in the final script. So a newer, technicolor batch was doodled up.

-Photo Bomb.
A few people informed me that some of my paintings a friend of mine owns are in the "At Home" section of Anthropologie's website.
They aren't for sale, just background props.
The fine print states "richly detailed bohemian decor is on the rise"
Nice surprise.
Thanks Aubrey
Thanks Candace
Thanks Maléna

-Siamese Flower
Daily Post 3 for the month of August...
I've been making breakfast burritos at home now that Relish has closed.
Spotted this Siamese flower on their fence a few weeks ago.
I went back the next day and someone had plucked it. I'm glad I took the photos.
Not sure what kind of flowers they are, I'm sure something common.

-House Of Mystery 26
House of Myster issue 26.
The upcoming story arc sounds really great. One thing that people might not think about is how far ahead the covers have to be done(in order to have an image for solicitations in catalogues etc..) So when an issue finally comes out, months have gone by. Often times I won't be sure what new characters will look like since the issue hasn't been drawn yet.
For instance, Fig, the main character whose sitting is wearing what she wore in issue 21.
Oil on board 12"x18".
A bit of burning and dodging in photoshop.

Here's a time-laspe of me painting the Blue Sky Noise album cover. The audio kicks in instantly and at full volume so mind the speaker icon before playing.
I'll put a more longer version up on youtube at some point. Special thanks to Matthew Taillon for his youtube speed painting page.

This Coming Saturday is Jonathan Levine Gallery's Five Year Anniversary Group Exhibition
February 27 to March 27, 2010.
Opening Reception: Sat. 27th from 7-9pm.
Literally ton's of artists are showing(If everyone's weight averaged out at 150 lbs, it would be almost 3 tons!)
The list of artists are at the bottom of the post.
Here's my piece below.
"Meigh" 20"x24" oil on wood.
While this was being varnished, I took a shot of the frame on a plastic hook in my studio so i could Photoshop the painting in for the blog.
As I was cropping the background out I thought the tote and shadow looked cool when framed. Out of context with the surroundings.
